Sacramento police and sheriff’s deputies respond to weekend side shows

The Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department responded to several reports of side shows throughout the city and county over the weekend.

Sacramento police posted the following on its Facebook page

Across the region, law enforcement agencies have seen an increase in sideshow activity. Sideshows pose a great danger to our community members and lead to vandalism and significant property damage.

On Saturday afternoon, the Sacramento Police Department responded to reports of sideshow activity in various locations throughout the City and County. With assistance from our regional partners, officers responded to the locations and took enforcement action.

The sideshow involved approximately 100 vehicles, resulting in 5 tows, 12 citations, 4 handguns seized, and 5 arrests.

The Sacramento Police Department will continue to work with our regional law enforcement partners to conduct maximum enforcement at these illegal events. We remain committed to a zero-tolerance policy regarding these events and would like to remind the public that participation in sideshow events can result in vehicles being impounded and can lead to fines and penalties up to and including arrest.

We encourage members of the public that witness or have information regarding those who participate in these dangerous and reckless sideshows to contact our dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Anonymous tips can also be submitted using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app.
