What is happening in Elk Grove this week, August 28, 2023

Patrols Increased Through Labor Day
To help keep the community safe, the Police Department will have additional officers on patrol through Labor Day (Sept. 4) looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The additional efforts to prevent impaired driving are part of a national enforcement campaign, Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 13,384 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes in 2021 — that’s one person every 39 minutes.
Driving while impaired is not just from alcohol. Prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications and cannabis products may also impair motorists. If you plan on drinking or taking medications with a driving warning label, let someone who is sober drive. If you see someone driving impaired, call 9-1-1.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Streetlight on the Blink? It Could be a Bad Bulb
The Public Works team took to the streets last week during a night sweep to inspect more than 14,000 city streetlights following reports of some bad bulbs. About 50 LED bulbs made by the same manufacturer have failed and are displaying blue and purple lights in some areas. The lights are under warranty and crews will be replacing them. To report a bad bulb in your areas, call the City’s Maintenance Hotline at (916) 687-3005 or report the problem on the See Click Fix Elk Grove mobile app.

Survey: How would you like to share your feedback?
We’re working on developing an inclusive community participation toolkit to help staff provide residents with more opportunities to influence local projects and programs serving the community. We want to hear from you. Share your experience and ideas on how we can better engage with you and your neighbors. This survey will help us evaluate our current efforts, identify what is going well and existing barriers to inclusive participation. Take this short survey.
