What is happening in Elk Grove this week, September 18, 2023

¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated between September 15 to October 15. During the Month, Americans celebrate those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central, and South America or the Latinx community. The dates of the month-long celebration are significant in that Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua all celebrate their Independence Day on September 15. Followed by Mexico’s Independence Day on the 16th and Chile’s on the 18th. Día de la Raza, or Native American Day, also falls within this period on October 12th.

A Copa Club Afternoon

Don’t fall victim to scams.
Elk Grove’s Police Department wants the community, especially our senior community, to be prepared for potential fraud and economic crimes. Older adults are increasingly seen as easy targets of crimes such as identity theft, telemarketing and internet fraud, and impersonation scams. Attend this free, all-new fraud prevention seminar this Wednesday, September 20 from 10:30 a.m. to Noon at the Police Department (8400 Laguna Palms Way) to learn what you can do to protect yourself from fraud.

Did you know there is a new gallery in Elk Grove?
The Free Little Art Gallery Elk Grove features mini works of art by community members. Similar to a Little Free Library, visitors are encouraged to leave a piece of art, take a piece of art, or simply view the display. The gallery’s mission is to promote independent artists and build community engagement through the free exchange of art. Anyone can contribute a piece of art to the gallery if it fits inside. Art that is donated is photographed and posted on the gallery’s Instagram account. The goal is to help artists grow their fanbase while providing an opportunity for the community to gain a newfound appreciation for the arts. The Elk Grove Arts Commission applauds this new gallery in our community and encourage people to drop by. Learn more
