An Evening of Light, Love & Laughter
Let’s come together to celebrate the diversity of our community and the beauty of Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Join the Janta Sewa Group for an enchanting evening of dance, fashion, music, and food tomorrow night, Tuesday, November 7, from 6-8:30 p.m. at District56 (8230 Civic Center Drive). Celebrated by members of the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain religions, this magical evening celebrates the power of light over darkness and good over evil.
Wishing you a joyful and bright Diwali! Free admission for all ages.

Veterans Day Parade Returns
Show your support for Elk Grove’s military service veterans. Elk Grove American Legion Post 233 will host the Elk Grove Veterans Day Parade this Saturday, November 11. The parade will begin at the Elk Grove CSD Administrative Building (8820 Elk Grove Boulevard) at 11:11 a.m. and conclude at Elk Grove Regional Park. Streets will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for this important tribute to our service members.

Honor a Veteran Through the Military Street Banner Program
Banners honoring our residents who have served in the military adorn streetlights along Elk Grove Boulevard and Civic Center Drive between Big Horn Boulevard and Laguna Springs Drive. To learn more or to sponsor a banner, visit elkgrovecity.org/banners. Applications are accepted year-round.

City Expands Successful WORC Program
The City of Elk Grove is partnering with Sacramento- based non-profits Cyber Proud, Inc. and the Charles A. Jones Career and Education Center to invest in the future of Elk Grove residents. Using federal American Rescue Plan Act funding, the Elk Grove Workforce Readiness Certification Program (WORC) provides residents with free courses leading to industry recognized certification in the fields of information technology and manufacturing. The program also provides job placement and a retention bonus for graduates. The effort seeks to provide residents with the skills needed to be successful in an increasingly changing work environment. Apply for the Manufacturing Skills Training or the Information Technology Training.

Find a Way to Influence Our Future at the Climate Compass Workshop
The City of Elk Grove is updating its 2019 Climate Action Plan (CAP), called the Climate Compass, to provide a comprehensive and transformative framework for mitigating and adapting the impacts of climate change. Attend the first virtual workshop* on Wednesday, November 15 at 6 p.m. We’ll look at the community’s greenhouse gas inventory, explore key climate hazards impacting the city and help identify community vulnerabilities and strengths. Learn more
*If you need Spanish or other interpretation services, please send your request to climate@elkgrovecity.org or call 916-627-3748 by 1 p.m. on November 8.

Don’t Pile On — On-street Leaf Piles Could Cause Flooding
Place leaves and other yard debris in your organic waste container—not in the street. The City of Elk Grove operates a containerized green waste program but does not offer an on-street “claw” pickup service. If you have more green waste than container space, request an additional container by calling Republic Services at 916-635-2500. Residents can have up to three organic waste carts without additional charge. Green waste can also be taken to the Recycle Area at the Special Waste Collection Center (9255 Disposal Lane) free of charge. For more information, visit elkgrovecity.org/recycle.
