Vehicle recovered from lake in Elk Grove

Earlier today the Sacramento Sheriff’s Dive Team along with Elk Grove police and a tow truck recovered a vehicle from a lake in the Laguna West/Lakeside area. The vehicle reportedly went into the lake near the intersection of Shorelake Drive and Maritime Drive on Saturday, February 10, around 8:40 am.

According to a post on the Elk Grove Police Department social media pages, officers responded to a call for service about a couple arguing around 8:40 am on February 10th. When officers arrived in the area, they found one of the involved subjects walking down the street. The individual exhibited clear signs of impairment during the conversation with the officers, clutching car keys and mentioning that their vehicle was parked near a lake.

Officers searched the area of Stonelake and discovered a damaged gate and tire marks leading to the lake. Lo and behold, the car was submerged underwater. That morning, officers were able to determine that there was no one else inside the submerged vehicle.

Through coordinated efforts involving our traffic detectives, the Sacramento County Dive Team, and a local tow company, the vehicle was successfully recovered today!

The driver now faces charges of drunk driving and hit and run. We have zero tolerance for impaired driving and hold accountable those who jeopardize our community’s safety.
