Sacramento police investigating a homicide in South Sacramento

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a homicide that happened on Sunday that killed a woman. Sacramento police were responding to a request for a welfare check when they heard shots being fired. After setting up a perimeter officers eventually discovered a deceased female.

Homicide Investigation – 6100 Block of Ventura Street

On Sunday, March 03, 2024, Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 6100 Block of Ventura Street for reports of a welfare check. While on the scene, officers heard sounds of shots fired. Officers did not return fire but set up a perimeter. Additional officers were requested and then officers began systematically searching the area for a suspect. The suspect was not located during that time. During the investigation, officers located a female adult with at least one gunshot wound. That female was pronounced deceased on the scene by Sacramento Fire Personnel.

Due to the circumstances, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. They will be processing the scene, canvassing the area, and interviewing witnesses. The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after the next of kin have been notified.
