Over the weekend, Property Crimes, Organized Retail Crime Detectives, and several members of North Patrol, Central Patrol, and Central P.O.P. conducted proactive enforcement of retail theft at three Target stores.

During the operation, 96 individuals were arrested and cited for shoplifting and theft related charges, of which 10 individuals were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

The individuals involved ranged from 11 to 62 years old. One pair of female suspects used an empty baby carrier concealed with a blanket to mimic a sleeping child to hide their stolen items. In two incidents, suspects took items from the store with a marked Sheriff’s patrol vehicle parked in front of the exit doors.

Detectives were able to recover more than $8,000 in stolen merchandise.
