Elk Grove City Council to review speed limits on city streets

At Wednesday night’s city council meeting, the council will hear a staff report on speed limits on several streets in the city. Traffic surveys were conducted on 12 sections of roadway in the city. The table below shows the existing speed limit, the 85% percentile of the actual speed of traffic, and the proposed speed limit. Generally, the speed limit is rounded down to the nearest 5 mph. In some cases below even though the 85th percentile is more than 5 mph faster than the existing speed limit, city staff is recommending that the speed limit not be raised. There are 6 examples of that in the chart.

Only one section of the roadway will see a change. Whitelock Parkway between Bruceville Road and Big Horn Blvd would be reduced from 45 mph to 40 mph.
