A man accused of breaking into a home and stealing a car was apprehended after leading deputies on a high-speed chase along Highway 99, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities reported that the incident began around 3 p.m. Friday, when they received a call about an attempted break-in at a residence on the 7200 block of Chandler Drive.
The suspect initially tried to force entry into one home, but the homeowner, a legal gun owner, confronted him and fired a shot. The sheriff’s office stated that the bullet grazed the suspect’s hand.
Undeterred, the suspect proceeded to a neighboring home, successfully breaking in. Once inside, he stole a car from the garage, crashing it through the garage door before fleeing the scene. Deputies later caught up with him, initiating a vehicle pursuit that ended in his capture.
The chase finally ended when the car crashed into a ditch along Highway 99 near Dillard Road. The suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment and will eventually be taken to the Sacramento County Jail.
