![]() Planning for Elk Grove-Sacramento Zoo Has Ended The Sacramento Zoological Society (Society) and the City of Elk Grove announced last week that planning for the Elk Grove-Sacramento Zoo has ended. The Society shared with the City that they no longer saw efforts to build a new zoo in Elk Grove as viable. The Society expressed that factors such as economic uncertainty and increased construction costs, created an unacceptable level of risk for the project. Other concerns included questions over future operating costs, scope and scale of phase 1, and the ability to fund future phases. A lot of questions have come up about the project since last week’s announcement. One common misconception is that the City reduced the size of the new zoo and reduced amenities. This is not true.
