Elk Grove Seniors Can Ride for Free
More than 31,000 people age 62 and older are estimated to live in Elk Grove, or about 17% of the City’s population. With many seniors on a fixed income and sensitive to changes in the cost of living, the City has launched a new Seniors Ride Free Pilot Program to reduce transportation costs for senior residents and encourage use of SacRT for trips within Elk Grove.
This new program is scheduled to run on a trial basis through June 2027. Elk Grove seniors will be able to use their government-issued Identification Card, Driver’s License, or other valid identification to show proof of age and Elk Grove residence. Seniors can ride any SacRT bus routes in the city or on commuter routes to Sacramento at no cost through the program.

Broadband Update
The City recently completed a comprehensive review of its municipal broadband initiative, finding that approximately 93% of Elk Grove households have access to high-speed service, with private providers continuing to expand coverage. Given the estimated $40 million cost to develop a City-funded network for remaining gaps, staff determined the investment is not fiscally prudent and will be discontinuing City-led efforts. The City will instead continue to monitor broadband availability and support connectivity through coordination with private providers. Learn more.

Before You Set Up That Sale: A Quick Guide to Garage and Yard Sale Rules
Many residents look forward to hosting garage, yard, or estate sales as a way to declutter and connect with neighbors. If you’re planning a sale, a quick refresher on the City’s guidelines can help ensure your event runs smoothly and remains compliant with local rules.
Under Elk Grove Municipal Code 23.92.020, residents may hold garage, yard, estate, or other temporary outdoor sales up to four times per calendar year. Each sale may last for no more than two consecutive days and must take place within your home, garage, or yard. These limits are designed to balance flexibility for residents with consideration for neighborhood impacts such as traffic and parking.
Advertising signs for all temporary outdoor sales are also subject to rules. While signs may be used to direct customers, they may not be posted on utility poles or on any public property, including medians, street signs, or sidewalks. Proper sign placement helps keep public spaces safe, accessible, and visually uncluttered. And don’t forget to collect your signs once you’re done with your outdoor sale event to avoid citations.
Following these good-neighbor guidelines can support a successful sale while helping maintain the character and safety of Elk Grove neighborhoods. Learn more about Code Enforcement.
