Making the Move: Elk Grove Library Closing July 25
Moving more than 33,000 items to a new facility will take some time. The Sacramento Public Library has announced that Elk Grove’s library branch will officially close on Saturday, July 25 in order to begin the move to its new location at 9260 Elk Grove Blvd.
The book drop will not be available during this closure. Any remaining holds not picked up by July 25 will be moved to the Franklin Library.
Elk Grove residents are encouraged to visit the Franklin Library or one of SPL’s other nearby locations during the closure. View branch locations and hours.

Help Reimagine a Historic Elk Grove Space
The Elk Grove Library is relocating to its new facility at 9260 Elk Grove Boulevard and the City has started a community conversation about the future of the current site at 8900 Elk Grove Boulevard.
The goal is to create a vision for the site that honors the building’s history while meeting the evolving needs of the community. The project is focusing on identifying creative, inclusive, and economically feasible ideas that enhance the quality of life and provide broad public benefits.

Boom and Bust: Fireworks Enforcement Recap
In 2024 the Elk Grove City Council adopted amendments to the City’s Municipal Code that imposed stricter penalties for the possession and use of illegal fireworks within City limits. The amendments provide the City the ability to cite a property owner or tenant that uses or is in possession of illegal fireworks and for allowing or preventing any of their guest from using illegal fireworks under the Host Liability section of the ordinance. New administrative fines levied a $1,000 citation for every individual firework launched in the air or found in someone’s possession.
Over the 2026 holiday enforcement period, Elk Grove Code Enforcement and Police Department officials issued 37 citations totaling $239,000 in fines.
The moral of this story? Illegal fireworks can be really expensive. Elk Grove is issuing more citations for the possession of illegal fireworks each year and will continue to enforce zero tolerance for illegal fireworks in the community.

Civic Summer Students Gear Up for Graduation
More than 50 Elk Grove junior and senior high school students dedicated a majority of their summer to explore careers in public service through the Civic Summer program. An annual program offered by Elk Grove Unified School District, the City of Elk Grove, and other local agencies, Civic Summer provides a combination of guest lectures from elected officials and hands-on learning through a 3-week internship. This year saw the largest participating class so far with 53 students placed in departments including Police, Public Works, Transit, Fire, and even the City Manager’s Office. Students will participate in a special graduation ceremony later this week – just enough time for a little rest and relaxation before school starts.
Many thanks to this next generation of leaders who served their community this summer.
