Elk Grove City Council to consider adding 5 red light cameras

At its meeting this evening, the Elk Grove City Council will consider an agenda item that would add 5 more red light cameras to the city.

The 5 intersections are:

South Bound Elk Grove Florin Rd @ Sheldon Rd
North Bound Franklin Blvd @ Elk Grove Blvd
South Bound Elk Grove Blvd @ Franklin Blvd
South Bound Bruceville Rd @ Laguna Blvd
Relocation at Existing Intersection
North Bound Bruceville Rd @ Elk Grove Blvd (Currently WB)

According to the staff report, EGPD’s 2021-2025 traffic summary analysis further supports the use of
photo enforcement as a traffic-safety tool. The analysis reviewed the top 15
highest traffic-volume intersections in Elk Grove and found that when
compared with similarly high-volume intersections without photo
enforcement, intersections equipped with photo enforcement generally had
a lower crash rate. Crash rate is measured as crashes per million entering
vehicles, which accounts for differences in traffic volume and indicates lower
relative risk of collision at intersections with photo enforcement.
