City Council Approves Moratorium on New Self-Storage Facilities
The City Council has approved a moratorium on new self-storage facilities, pressing pause on additional projects for the foreseeable future.
Elk Grove currently has 19 self-storage facilities, with three additional projects either approved or under construction. The moratorium will give the City time to study the impacts of additional facilities and consider updates to the City’s development regulations. The review could help guide where self-storage facilities are most appropriate and ensure valuable land remains available for priorities such as housing, employment centers and other uses that support a vibrant, connected community.
The Council’s action reflects a proactive approach to managing growth and ensuring Elk Grove’s limited developable land is used in ways that best support the community’s long-term needs and economic vitality.

Winding Up for the Pitch
Ten startups will make their pitch live before a panel of judges for a share of $20,000 in prize money during the 5th annual Pitch Elk Grove competition this Thursday, September 3 at District56. This 5th annual event continues to highlight emerging startups and celebrate Elk Grove’s unique identity. An RSVP is required to attend this free event, seating is limited. Register to attend.

Feedback gathered throughout the process will help inform recommendations presented to the City Council early next year.
