The CHP issued a press release regarding an early morning fatal collision
SACRAMENTO — On September 29, 2026, at approximately 4:08 a.m., the California Highway Patrol
(CHP) Sacramento Communications Center received a report of a traffic crash involving a sedan
and a big rig on southbound State Route (SR-) 99, south of Twin Cities Road. Officers immediately
responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates an unknown sedan was traveling southbound on SR-99 in the
far-right lane when it drifted to the left and sideswiped a slower-moving construction attenuator
truck, traveling in the far-left lane. This initial impact caused the sedan to veer to the right and travel
across all lanes of traffic and the right shoulder. The vehicle then left the freeway and came to rest
on West Stockton Boulevard, directly in the path of an oncoming semi-tractor and trailer.
The driver of the semi-tractor and trailer was unable to avoid the sedan and crashed into it.
Following the impact, the sedan became fully engulfed in fire. Despite the efforts of first responders
on scene, the driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending
notification of next of kin.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, and it is unknown at this time if
alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional
information is encouraged to contact the CHP South Sacramento Area at (916) 897-5600.
